On Saturday we got to play with one of the RoboBeasts fresh off the production line – Arnold took these stunning pictures:

Printing some quadcopter parts

Printing squiggles
Apart from helping out with the testing (uhmm…yeah right), the reason for us wanting to use the RoboBeast is, it is FAST!!! If you have ever messed around with 3d printing, you will know there is a lot of waiting involved… also it has a massive print bed (320 x 385mm) so quadcopter frames easily fit onto it 🙂
We printed parts for the Spidex Micro (https://www.youmagine.com/designs/spidex-micro-by-quaternium) and Squiggles – Philip’s quadruped remix (http://www.thingiverse.com/make:48438):

Squiggles (build by Philip) was a hit and brought home the power of combining electronics and 3d printing
The RoboBeast and Morgan joint production line is currently in the back section of House4Hack, occupying the old garage and main bedroom (the yellow bits in the picture below). The new workshop has been filled with some impressive machines and members are welcome to use these after completing the initiation course.

Robohand has been hard at work at House4Hack over the weekend and their aim is to produce an inexpensive 3d printable prosthetic leg: roboleg

- First prototype of the RoboLeg
Richard has been thinking about this idea for a while and decided to host a maker’s weekend with designers, practitioners and enthusiasts from Robohand Cape Town, Australia and Robohand HQ. Also collaborating with Quentin Harley (designer of the award winning Reprap Morgan) and Bernhard Vogt (owner of CAD House 3d printers).

We have submitted two sessions to Tech4Africa – please vote!
You cannot open a tech/news site without reading about a drone, UAV, UAS, multi-rotor, quad copter or flying robot. The headlines tend to be combat heavy, but the real applications is just being discovered – surveying, agriculture, photography, art, search-and-rescue, medicine, infra-structure etc. In this workshop, we will demonstrate how to build a working multi-rotor based drone. The demonstration will explain each of the components, sub-systems and showing step-by-step assembly. We hope to enable participants with a deep technical understanding of the technology and demystifying to the point where anyone can build their own drone.
3d printing is changing the way we think about manufacturing, design, construction, medicine and the list goes on. The best way to get into 3d printing is to 3d print! And we are planning a hands-on masterclass that will teach you how to 3d print, using the frame for a flying robot as the example model. We will explain the technology used in most desktop 3d printers, the materials that can be printed with, some 3d design basics, how to prepare the design, slice it, send it to the printer for materialization and then fly it.
