Hacking in Ga-Nkoane

T00bl1pp3 en I had a “quick” (10 hour round trip) visit to Ga-Nkoane in Limpopo -for those who don’t immediately know where this is: [mappress mapid=”2″]
The reason for our visit was to test a field device House4Hack is busy developing for Eskom. The device will be used during their surveys of the sub-reticulation networks to record the phase balancing of these network.
While we were busy with the test, I met an incredible gentleman, Dawid – he appears to be the local hacker of Ga-Nkoane! He was extremely interrested in our device and once I explained, he realised that we were also hackers and immediately wanted to do a quick show and tell.
He showed off someof his projects: the first a electro-mechanical battery charger, complete with dashboard – the second a self-made press. The battery charger uses an electrical motor to turn a car’s alternator, it even includes a dashlight to show when the battery is charged! All the parts were “recycled” from equipment that was beyond repair.
I left Ga-Nkoane filled with inspiration – can’t wait for Saturday’s Hackathon!
