Random Hacks Of Kindness – December 2013
by skullkey

We are busy planning Random Hacks of Kindness (see rhok.org) for the first weekend of December 2013. It is an international event and we have been organizing this in Pretoria (organized by House4hack, UNISA, CSIR, SAP Research) since 2011 and think it is time to also bring it to Braamfontein!
For the December 2013 event we have teamed up with UNISA, CSIR, mLab, ThoughtWorks, JCSE
Register now!
The event brings together NGO’s (problem owners) and designers/developers/ hackers/social entrepeneurs etc/ (problem solvers) to tackle a number of problems for the weekend. Saturday morning problems are presented, groups forms around these, work on it till about Sunday after lunch. On the Sunday the problems are presented and the winner announced. It is important that the problem owners participate as much as possible on the weekend to ensure the solutions are steered to their needs.
It is a great event – lots of good will. Some of the solutions are great and can be used, other projects ends up as POC that the NGO’s can use to raise funding.
What?
Throughout the planned weekend, we will be Hacking for Humanity, that is, coding/programming around local challenges in Education (Science and Technology), Health, Citizen Reporting, Disaster relief and many more.
